Town of Delavan Plans Oktoberfest Event
Saturday, October 24, 2020 12-6pm
The Town of Delavan along with Delavan Friends of the Park are planning a celebration of German culture on October 24, 2020.
The celebration is to be held at the Delavan Community Park, at the corner of Highway 50 and South Shore Drive. Festivities will begin at 12pm There will be food trucks, vendors, German dancers and live entertainment from The Steve Meisner Band. Delavan Friends of the Park will be hosting beverage sales; no outside alcohol will be permitted.
Axe-Sighted will be offering the chance to throw axes inside their fully enclosed trailer. This was a very popular attraction at the Independence Day Celebration back in June, so they are excited to be back in Delavan.
Added this year is a chance to try your hand at German trivia! Teams of up to 6 are encouraged to sign up on the Delavan Friends of the Park Facebook page; there is a $15 entry fee per team.
There will also be a sauerkraut eating competition for which participants can register on the day of the event.
The Community Park building is currently under construction, so this will be an outdoor event. German food will be provided by some of the preferred catering partners for the new Waters Edge Wedding and Event venue, which will open in summer of 2021.
A few of the delicacies available will be beer cheese dip with Bavarian kettle chips, bratwurst meatloaf with red cabbage gravy and Konigsberger Klopse, German-style meatballs in a brown caper sauce.
The event is supported by the Town of Delavan as well as other community sponsors, including Noble Insurance, First National Bank and Brassworks Apartments.
Side note: the Town’s annual Kids’ Halloween party originally scheduled on Sunday, October 25 has been cancelled and trick or treating has been moved from October 25th to Saturday, October 31st from 12-3pm.
